Cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of a person’s teeth, mouth and smile. While many dental procedures address dental problems that require necessary treatment, cosmetic dentistry deals more with elective—or desired—treatments or services.
Good cosmetic dentistry is about more than simply new technologies and materials. Most of these are readily available to all practicing dentists. True cosmetic dentistry has an element of art and honed craft as well. Dr. Harris has trained with some of the world’s most prominent cosmetic dentistry specialists. He was one of the first dentists in the Greer, SC area to practice cosmetic dentistry.
Today many restorative and cosmetic treatments overlap. For example, common dental fillings treat decayed teeth. Now however, dental fillings may fall into the category of cosmetic dentistry, because you can select fillings made of porcelain or composite materials that closely match the color of your teeth, thus maintaining the natural appearance of your teeth and smile. In fact, you may choose to have older fillings replaced with newer, tooth-colored fillings to enhance appearance.
Other Cosmetic Options
Inlays-Onlays: made from porcelain or composite materials, these long lasting alternative fillings are fitted and adhesively bonded into place.
Bonding: material with the look of enamel and dentin is applied into the cavity or onto the surface of a tooth, where it is then sculpted into shape, contoured and hardened with a high-intensity light.
Veneers: Composite or porcelain laminates that are adhesively bonded to the surface of a tooth to correct and repair chips and cracks. Veneers may also be recommended if you have gaps in your teeth or if you have not had success with teeth whitening.
If you are considering cosmetic dentistry, or need a treatment that can have cosmetic benefits, Dr. Harris will consult with you regarding all your options and help you decide the approach that best fits your needs and budget.
