    Dr. Harris, what about diabetes?

According to www.diabetes.org, the connection between oral health and diabetes actually goes both ways.

People who have diabetes are more at risk for gum disease, especially those with uncontrolled blood glucose levels. A patient with diabetes may have a compromised ability to fight germs in the mouth.

On the other hand, infections of the mouth-like any infection-can cause blood sugar to go up and therefore make the diabetes harder to control.

The website suggests regular brushing, flossing, and trips to the dentist to avoid problems.
