Getting your teeth cleaned twice a year is the simplest and best way to ensure your teeth and gums stay healthy. Simply doing this can help you avoid potentially extensive and costly restorative or cosmetic treatments.
A dental cleaning is a fairly routine procedure that is rarely painful. If you are fearful about going to the dentist or have marked tooth sensitivity, may want to discuss sedation dentistry options.
The average dental cleaning takes between 30 minutes to an hour. If you have not had your teeth cleaned in a long time, you may experience a longer cleaning, and some additional pulling or scraping to remove plaque from teeth.
At your exam we’ll ask about your home brushing and flossing activities. We’ll talk with you about any problems or concerns you have. Dr. Harris will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums and discuss any recommendations to improve the health or appearance of your teeth. Once a year we take x-rays to see what’s going on with your teeth below the gum line.
NOTE: If you have a heart condition, or have undergone heart surgery, it is extremely important to let us know prior to the day of your cleaning. We will typically administer a dose of antibiotics an hour before the cleaning.
